FANS OF JIMMY CENTURY BIOGRAPHY:

Avant-garde dance rock / indie disco group Fans of Jimmy Century got off to a fast start when their 2008-2009 single, “Hot Sahara,” climbed the FMQB dance and radio charts, reaching #23. Both “Hot Sahara” and its accompanying album, Twist of the Banshees, were on the pre-ballot in the Electronic Dance category for the Grammy Awards in 2008.

“Hot Sahara,” & additional FOJC tracks have been selected for key placements in several popular television shows such as The L Word (in a scene so steamy, it’s now referred to by L Word fanatics as “The Hot Sahara Scene”), Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, The Real Housewives of NYC, Running Russell Simmons, Community, Ugly Betty, The Hills, The Listener, and Samantha Who?

Popular 2011 film releases including Columbia Pictures’ “Bad Teacher” starring Cameron Diaz & Justin Timberlake, and Warner Bros.’ “Hall Pass” starring Owen Wilson will feature “Hot Sahara, “ “Lola Like This,” and “Your Crying Game” in the DVD bonus features of those films this summer.

Popular Brands / Advertisers Forever 21, Roxy Europe, and Zippo Lighters are also using FOJC songs in their 2011 online commercials/ads.

In 2010 FOJC collaborated for LucasArts, assisting composer Mark Griskey with the new Star Wars video game. They also launched a “Hot Sahara for Haiti” campaign, partnering with Windows 7 & ReverbNation to engage their fans, known as Hotheads, to raise over $500 for Haiti earthquake response. In May 2010, they were chosen to perform at the largest fashion show on the West Coast, Charity Fashion Show 2010, at Stanford University, and were later featured performers at The East Bay Express’ annual Best of the East Bay 2010 event in Jack London Square in August, performing in front of a crowd of 3000.

Fans of Jimmy Century’s exciting and theatrical live performances have made them a favorite on the West Coast festival circuit, giving them the opportunity to share the stage with artists such as Lady GaGa, Robyn, Cyndi Lauper, The English Beat, Shiny Toy Guns, Berlin, The Bird and the Bee, and The Presets.  In May 2011 they supported Robyn at popular theme park, California’s Great America.  And in June 2011 the performed at SF’s famous Haight Street Fair for a crowd of thousands.

Look for the release of new singles including “Mr. Las Vegas,” and “Va Va Voom to the Moon” from the upcoming new CD in September 2011, along with their newest video release for Hollywood Ending directed by Billy Clift in August 2011 at the popular Hubba Hubba Revue show at the DNA Lounge in SF.

Past History

2006 marked Fans of Jimmy Century’s first self-released debut EP, “Fans of Jimmy Century.” In 2007 a full-length CD, Twist of the Banshees, was released, with a remix CD “The Remixes of Hot Sahara and Blonde Ambition” to follow in 2008. With popular media like Dancemusic.About.com championing them, they received awards and nods for both Global Domination and Top 10 Dance Record. After faring well with the dance crowd, their out-of-the-box, alternative dance sounds garnered them an invitation to speak on the Clubland Hitmakers panel at the DJ Times-sponsored DJ Expo 2008 in Atlantic City, along with then-emerging dance acts Lady Gaga & Jes.

2009 brought their newest EP, Head Go Whoosh‚ featuring the first singles, “Lola Like This” and “International.” “Lola Like This,” was remixed by popular World Town founder, Energy 92.7’s top DJ Trevor Simpson from San Francisco, Haki from Mexico City, who scored a big hit in 2009 on Mexican radio with his remix of the band’s “Hot Sahara,” Rod Carrillo, the influential program director from Phoenix‚ and Dave Aude, the Grammy-nominated go-to pop dance remixer of the year. These remixes are available on the 2010 release “Lola Like This: The Apache Dance Remixes.”
